RAMALLAH, November 15, 2014 – (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received Saturday German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Presidential headquarters in Ramallah, the occupied Palestinian Territory. Abbas held talks with the Steinmeier, who is making a two-day visit to the occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel for talks with leaders on both sides. Speaking in a press conference following Abbas’ meeting with the German top diplomat, Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki stated: “President Abbas briefed the German guest on the latest developments as well as the latest escalation triggered by the Israeli government in occupied Jerusalem, especially in the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound.”

Al-Malki added: “Abbas affirmed the Palestinian leadership’s position to de-escalate tensions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and maintain the status quo that has been in effect since 1967.
